Mayor Keith Corbett proclaims Sept. 12-19 Children's Museum of South Dakota Week

Children’s Museum of South Dakota staff, Mayor Keith Corbett, and representatives from Visit Brookings and Downtown Brookings were on-hand Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020, for the Mayoral Proclamation.

Prior to the Proclamation, Executive Director Kate Treiber gave a 10 Year Celebration Welcome:

Over the past few months, our staff and board members have been asked to reflect upon our Museum’s mission:

To spark imagination for ALL children and their grown-ups through play, creativity, and discovery.

During this process, not one person said they didn’t know it, understand it, or feel that this very statement hasn’t served us well over the years.

This mission statement has challenged us to serve children and families in innovative and impactful ways

It has guided us along the way and collectively molded us to be the best we can be.

Let’s break it down a bit further . . .

Sparking imagination has helped ignite synergy between our museum and close to 20 community organizations we have partnered with in unique and innovative ways throughout the years.

Our deep focus on the true meaning of play has helped to create meaningful memories for over 1,000,000 guests from around our community, our state, our country, and our world!

Our acceptance of creativity has been incredibly influential – from reimagining an old elementary school building into a beautiful children’s museum or confronting our current challenge of moving a 10-year anniversary celebration outside of our walls and (literally) onto our sidewalks and windows

And discovery … a word that a board member recently reinforced as the very definition of what happens in the learning process. This discovery has helped us ALL (young and old) grow our minds, bodies, and spirits!

So, this week we are incredibly excited to celebrate this mission, especially the ways in which it has molded us this past decade and how we will use it to catapult us into the next 10 years and beyond!

And today, we are honored to have Brookings Mayor, Keith Corbett here to help us kick off our week of celebration with his proclamation!
