It's our anniversary!

The power of play is alive and well in South Dakota! Take part in our anniversary activities.

Ten years ago, on Sept. 12, 2010, the Children’s Museum of South Dakota officially opened its doors as thousands of people gathered on the front lawn to show their support.

The Museum is celebrating its 10th anniversary the week of Saturday, Sept. 12-Saturday, Sept. 19, but is hoping to spread the celebration all year long by inviting the public to share their Children’s Museum of South Dakota stories.

In addition to the activities below, we invite you to stay tuned to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to walk down memory lane as different historical photographs are featured.

10th Anniversary Activities

Saturday, Sept. 12

Stop by the Brookings Farmers Market for a meet and greet with Museum mascot Kidoodle from 9-9:45 a.m. The Museum team will also be at the market from 9 a.m. to noon selling Play Along at Home Kits, dinosaur face coverings, stickers, and Kidoodle backpack clips.

Saturday, Sept. 12-Saturday, Sept. 19

Take part in a self-guided 10th Anniversary Scavenger Hunt and Chalk Walk on-site at 521 4th Street, Brookings, SD, all week long. Activities are free, located on the Museum lawn, and available sunrise to sunset.

If you are walking by the Museum at night, be sure to look up! All of our windows and the atrium will light the way for play in Museum pink, green, purple, and SDSU blue! Why? Because we are in Brookings!

Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 9:45 a.m.

Mayor Keith Corbett will read a proclamation celebrating the Children’s Museum of South Dakota’s 10th anniversary. The celebration will take place outside near the front door and the start of the Scavenger Hunt and Chalk Walk activities.
