Party Theme Options
Ages 1-5
Dinosaur Party: This playful, hands-on celebration brings the prehistoric world to life through open-ended exploration and interactive experiences. Little explorers will stomp, dig, and discover at their own pace, sparking curiosity and creativity along the way.
Lil’ Makers Party: Designed to nurture curiosity and imagination, this engaging celebration invites little creators to tinker, build, and experiment using a variety of materials. Through open-ended exploration, young minds will bring their ideas to life in a fun and playful environment.
Ages 6-12
Canvas Creations: Young artists will design and paint their very own canvas masterpiece while learning basic painting techniques like color blending, brushwork, and self-expression. This hands-on party fosters creativity, confidence, and a love for art—one brushstroke at a time!
Makers Party: This interactive party invites young creators to tinker, build, and experiment using a variety of materials and tools. Through open-ended exploration, kids will bring their ideas to life, problem-solve, and unleash their inner inventors in a fun and engaging environment.

1.5 hours in a private Museum party room
Themed, age-appropriate party activities led by a party facilitator
Party for up to 20 children (additional children are $10; children under 1 are free, with a maximum of 25 children)
Adults attend free (at least one adult must be present at all times)
Tables prepped with tablecloths (cups and tableware are not included unless catering is selected)
Party does not include access to exhibits, but Museum playtime can be added on!

For a discounted rate of $8 per person age 1 and up, party attendees can enjoy full access to the Museum exhibits before or after the party. Memberships are honored for attendees. Please note: the Museum requires a 1 to 5 adult to child ratio in the exhibits.
Food & Drink Options
• Food and drink are not provided unless catering is selected (ice water is provided for all parties)
• Guests may bring in a cake purchased from a commercial kitchen
• Additional food and beverages must be catered through Cafe Coteau

What is included with a birthday party reservation?
A birthday party reservation includes 1.5 hours in a private Museum party room for up to 20 children. Additional children are $10 each, children under 1 are free — with a maximum of 25 children.
A party includes themed, age-appropriate party activities led by a party facilitator. Tables are prepped with tablecloths (cups and tableware are not included unless catering is selected).
How many guests can attend?
The party pricing structure includes up to 20 children. Additional children are $10, with a maximum of 25 children. (Note: children under 1 are free.)

Do guests get Museum admission?
Access to Museum exhibits is not a part of the party experience.

Can we bring our own food and cake?
The Museum does not provide cake. However, guests may bring in a cake purchased from a commercial kitchen.
Additional food and beverages must be catered through our on-site restaurant, Cafe Coteau. Catering options will be presented during the booking process.
Will the party space be decorated?
The party room is brightly colored and will be set with materials and props related to the theme of the party. There will also be a special sign created for the birthday child. Please chat with one of our team to learn about other decorating options.
What makes a party at the Children’s Museum of South Dakota special?

What if there is inclement weather on party day?
If the Children’s Museum of South Dakota is closed due to inclement weather, we will notify the party host by telephone the morning of your party and will start the process to refund or reschedule.
If the Museum is open and you prefer not to have your party, we will do our best to reschedule, but no refunds will be given.
What is the refund/cancellation policy?
$100 of your full payment is a non-refundable, non-transferable deposit/processing fee. The remainder of your party payment is refundable if we are given a minimum of two weeks’ notice. If cancellation occurs within two weeks of the party date, no refunds are given due to the loss of another booking.
