It’s National Volunteer Week 2019. At the Children’s Museum of South Dakota volunteers are an integral part of what we do. In 2018, our volunteers logged 1,778 hours of service and we couldn’t be more thankful.
Volunteers help with field trips, work behind the scenes on special projects, help with landscaping, assist with special events, and more. We caught up with a few of our volunteers to see what they enjoy about their experiences.
Why do you volunteer at the Children’s Museum of South Dakota?
After I retired, I wanted to give back. I find the museum a fun place to be. – Trish
I volunteer at the Children’s Museum because it provides an opportunity for me to give back to the larger Brookings Community. I enjoy being given a task to independently complete that helps out the staff and also allows me to greet and visit with guests at the museum. There is so much “quiet, behind the scenes” work going on to create an enjoyable experience for all who visit. – Nancy
I was looking for a fun place to volunteer, and what better place to be than the happiest place on earth? – Isaac
I watched the museum being built and was thrilled that it would be in Brookings! I couldn’t wait to be a part of it. – Joan
What is your favorite part of the museum?
My favorite exhibit is the wall where you can paint. I like it because usually children are not allowed to paint on walls, but in the Children’s Museum, you can do it! – Yelyzaveta
I love the flexibility of activities to do when you volunteer. There is so much to choose from so you never get bored. – Isaac
Watching the eyes of the children when they first see the “dinos” is absolutely enchanting! – Carol
I love working in the grocery store and seeing what all the children buy – Winnie
