Meet the Murphy family: Josh, Erin, Silas (5), Finnegan (3), who have been members since 2023.
We asked Erin to tell us a little about her family and how they take full advantage of their Children’s Museum of South Dakota membership as out-of-town members.

Where is your family from?
Erin: Arlington, SD
How often do you come to the Museum?
Erin: About once a week!
What is your family’s favorite exhibit?
Erin: Our boys usually head straight to the water room, Splash. We could spend the whole day there! Finnegan also loves Story Time and Silas loves climbing the clouds.
What keeps your family coming back to the Museum?
Erin: Every staff member makes us feel so welcomed and seen. They are clearly happy to be staffed at the Museum and it shows they care about our kids. It amazed me how recognized we were after only a few times of stopping in.
“I love how happy the Museum makes my boys each time we come to play!”
What is the most valuable thing about your membership?
Erin: Birthday party and class discounts!
Finnegan enjoyed his Museum Dinosaur Party this last spring. The party was unbelievable. The staff, decorations, and personalized posters—it was all amazing. We were provided with so many fun activities and even a dino-themed experiment.
It was definitely a party to remember and we can’t wait to do it again!
What would you tell a family who’s coming to the Museum for the first time?
Erin: Plan for more than an hour because your kids won’t want to leave!
Is there anything else you would like to share?
Erin: We love our membership. It is affordable for our family and when we pass through town (especially in the winter time) we can stop in to climb, play, or sit for a quick Story Time.
We also love bringing friends and having play dates at the Museum!
“It warms my heart that my boys [and their friends] have a place to be themselves and use their imagination through all the different of exhibits and rooms.”
We are definitely thankful for our Children’s Museum staff and friends!
