Kate Treiber Joins Museum Team as Suzanne Hegg Plans Retirement
Brookings, SD – Children’s Museum of South Dakota has named Kate Treiber to succeed Suzanne Hegg as Executive Director, upon Hegg’s planned retirement at the end of summer 2014. In addition, Mike Mogard will join the Museum team in July as Assistant Director.
Treiber has been the Executive Director of the Brookings Area United Way since 2010, and has past experience in early childhood education. She is a graduate of SDSU and a long-time Brookings resident. She will join CMSD in February and serve as Chief Operating Officer (COO) until becoming Executive Director at the end of the summer.
Mike Mogard has been with the Brookings School District for five years, currently teaching 5th grade at the Camelot Intermediate School. He will begin his role in the museum this summer, after completion of his school contract.
“We thank Suzanne for her leadership and dedication to making the Children’s Museum of South Dakota what it is today,” said Dale Larson, Chairman of the Board. “Suzanne has been an integral part of this museum since before we even had a building. Her beliefs in learning through play, the importance of imagination, and fostering relationships between children and their grown-ups are cornerstones of who we are,” Larson said.
Treiber and Mogard were hired after an 8-month nationwide search. “I am thrilled that Kate and Mike will be joining our team,” said Suzanne Hegg. “The Children’s Museum of South Dakota is recognized in the industry as a world-class organization, and these two have what it takes to lead us into the future.”
Hegg and the Museum’s Board of Directors designed this succession planning process to provide a smooth transition. When she retires from her Executive Director position, Hegg will be joining the CMSD Board of Directors.
