The Children’s Museum of South Dakota is celebrating 8 years with an annual Free Day of Play on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018. The public is invited to explore the museum, located in downtown Brookings, at no charge from 12-5 pm.
“Since we opened our doors 8 years ago, we’ve worked hard to be a place where people can play, create, and discover,” says Executive Director Kate Treiber. “Our Free Day of Play is a celebration of that, but also of the community partnerships we’ve created along the way.”
In the past year, the museum has taken part in a variety of community initiatives including hosting students from the Brookings School District weekly as part of an Innovation Learning Lab as well as for a Cultural Appreciation Day that is on track to be a yearly event. In addition, a Robotics Day that explored real-world robotic applications was organized in tandem with Brookings Health System.
“We have a unique opportunity to be an impactful community resource,” Kate says. “We look forward to deepening our community relationships in the coming year as we continue to work toward being an inclusive and accessible environment where informal education happens each day.”
Following the Free Day of Play event, museum members are invited to continue the celebration with Camp Kidoodle from 5-7 pm. Camp Kidoodle will feature lawn games, sleeping bag races, and other camping-inspired prairie fun.
Reservations are not required for the public or museum member event.
