Status: Part-time, hourly (weekend availability, required / summer availability, preferred).

Reports to: Director of Guest Services

Job Summary: 
In alignment with the Museum’s mission, vision, and values, Play Guides enhance the guest experience at CMSD. The ideal candidate will be a high-energy, well-organized, creative individual that enjoys working in a playful, team-oriented environment.

Essential Functions: 

  • Going out of your way to create a meaningful guest experience for all guests
  • Actively engaging guests by playing with them in the exhibits and answering questions
  • Monitoring exhibits for safety and cleanliness, including picking up loose parts
  • Performing exhibit opening/closing procedures
  • Helping maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming museum environment by performing regular cleaning duties
  • Supporting and guiding volunteers on the museum floor
  • Assisting at the Welcome Desk as needed
  • Assisting guests and maintaining a clean, engaging environment at Café Coteau as needed
  • Assisting Play Central Toys & Books with restocking and demonstrations
  • Assisting with museum events and outreach activities as needed
  • Supporting educational programming activities and museum marketing efforts as needed
  • Positively and accurately representing the mission and values of CMSD both inside and outside the museum
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Post-secondary education preferred
  • Able to stand, bend, climb, and/or walk for a prolonged period of time
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and teamwork
  • High comfort level interacting with children and adults in a fast-paced, high traffic, public environment
  • Recognizes that children naturally learn through play
  • Views children as capable and competent
  • Responds to guests needs/ emergency situations in a calm and comforting manner
  • Communicates effectively and interacts genuinely with families of all backgrounds and abilities
  • Must be reliable and flexible
  • Strong commitment to the mission, vision, and values of CMSD
