In 2010, the Children’s Museum of South Dakota began sparking imaginations for children and grown-ups through play, creativity, and discovery. This important work takes place both within and beyond our Museum’s walls, consistently reminding us that “the best place to play is everywhere”!
For 15 years, close to 1.5 million children and families from every state and dozens of countries have shared playful experiences and built meaningful memories in each exhibit, program, and playful moment.
As a community resource, an educational laboratory, and a destination for travelers, it’s been a distinct privilege to offer children and families these opportunities for exploration and play at their own pace in spaces uniquely designed for them.
Along the way, we’ve built partnerships with others that understand the unique hopes and needs of families across our community.
Together we’ve created a space where everyone belongs.
None of this would be possible without our amazing Museum team and board. They bring passion, creativity, discernment, and joy to this work. They’re not afraid to try new things, to reflect on how to do better, and to jump in alongside children to learn and grow — because that’s where the magic of play truly lives.
So, I ask you this:
- Have you smiled when you’ve walked through our Museum door or engaged with our mission beyond our walls?
- Have you felt a few tears when it’s time to leave?
If so, you have helped us meet the barometer of success set 15 years ago by our wise Museum founder!
As a Museum, we seek to transform the world by inspiring generations to love learning and to believe that life is full of possibilities. We invite you to learn more about our work and founding story by taking a few minutes to watch the video below.
And we also invite you to stop by and play along with us soon!
In the meantime, always remember: the best place to play is everywhere!
With gratitude and play,
Kate Treiber,
Executive Director
