K-3 Standards

Beyond the Exhibit Demonstrations:

Enjoy a small group activity inside one of our exhibit spaces led by museum staff during your field trip. Our demonstration add-ons are designed for groups of up to 15 children.

Kindergarten

  • Dinosaur Demonstration–Use measurement as a tool to see how you would stack up against Mama T. Rex. Through hands-on exploration of real and replica fossils, children can make comparisons to themselves.
    • Standard K.MD–Describe and compare measurable attributes.
  • Explore the Prairie Demonstration–How can dirt build a house? Where do vegetables come from? Explore our prairie to discover how the environment can be used to meet our needs.
    • Standard K.G.6.1–Describe ways people rely on the environment to meet human needs and wants.

First Grade

  • Tipi Demonstration–Discover ways Native Americans used all parts of a buffal0 near our tipi
    • Standard 1.H.1.2–Describe ways people learn about the past including but not limited to photos, artifacts, stories, and videos.
  • Sod House Demonstration–Learn about settlers and sod houses by exploring artifacts and photos.
    • Standard 1.H.1.2–Describe ways people learn about the past including but not limited to photos artifacts, stories, and videos.

Second Grade

  • Tipi Demonstration–Learn about Native American lifestyles through artifacts and stories.
    • Standard 2.H.1.2–Use historical records and artifacts including but not limited to photos, diaries, oral history, and videos to draw conclusions about family or school life in the past.
  • Sod House Demonstration–Explore replica artifacts and photos to discuss family life in a Sod House.
    • Standard 2.H.1.2–Use historical records and artifacts including but not limited to photos, diaries, oral history, and videos to draw conclusions about family or school life in the past.

Third Grade

  • Tipi and Sod House Demonstration–Compare and contrast settlement and community development between the Pioneer and Native American people.
    • Standard 3.H.1.1–Demonstrate knowledge of the obstacles and success of the early settlers in creating communities.
    • Standard 3.H.1.2–Explain cause and effect relationships that impacted early settlement and development in the United States.
