Children’s Museum of South Dakota is Celebrating Children’s Books
New Traveling Exhibit Open Now Through March 9th
The Children’s Museum of South Dakota is delighted to host a traveling exhibit of quilts celebrating literacy and children’s books. Six quilts pieced together by Muriel Feldshuh, a retired librarian and author from New York City, are on display in the museum’s second floor traveling exhibit space now through March 9th.
Each quilt is a collection of squares that contain handwritten comments and original artwork of classic children’s book characters. Come explore the 165 beautiful quilt squares created by famous authors and illustrators such as Eric Carle, Jan Brett, Mercer Mayor, Mo Willems and many more. The quilts will be on display for children to enjoy and adults to reminisce. Feldshuh’s quilts have toured the country over the past decade with stops at many children’s museums, libraries and other kid-friendly public spaces.
Children and families can also experience books coming to life through community guest readers, puppet theater presentations, storytelling, illustration creations, and other hands-on activities.
• Guest Readers from the community – February 1st, 8th, and 15th starting at 1:00pm
• First Lady Linda Daugaard – March 1st at 1:30pm
• Puppet Show with Katherine Eberline from the Brookings Public Library - Sat. Feb 8th at 2:00pm
• Special class offerings inspired by the quilts
