JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Weekend Manager

Status:  Part-time, hourly (weekend availability required). Position opened until filled.

Reports to:  Director of Guest Services

Job Summary
In alignment with the Museum’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan, the Weekend Manager will oversee operations at the welcome desk while ensuring a positive guest experience. All employees of CMSD are responsible for supporting CMSD’s goal to become a recognized leader in the children’s museum industry.

Essential Functions

  • Welcome guests and respond effectively to their needs
  • Process daily admissions, memberships and gift shop purchases
  • Enter data into museum database
  • Follow cash handling procedures
  • Maximize guest experience by overseeing floor staff
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in supervision preferred 
  • Enjoys working in a fast paced, high traffic, public environment
  • Exhibits excellent customer service skills
  • Understands and oversees point of sale system and basic computer programs (Microsoft Office)
  • Exhibits organizational, collaborative and problem solving skills
  • Communicates effectively and interacts genuinely with people of all backgrounds and abilities
  • Readiness to respond to guests needs/ emergency situations in a calm and comforting manner
  • Shows commitment to the mission, vision and values of CMSD

Job Summary: 
In alignment with the Museum’s mission, vision, and values, Play Guides enhance the guest experience at CMSD. The ideal candidate will be a high-energy, well-organized, creative individual that enjoys working in a playful, team-oriented environment. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Going out of your way to help guests have a great experience
  • Actively engaging guests by playing with them in the exhibits and answering questions
  • Monitoring exhibits for safety and cleanliness, including picking up loose parts
  • Helping maintain a clean and sanitary facility by performing regular cleaning duties
  • Assisting at the Welcome Desk
  • Assisting our Education team with programming opportunities (special events, museum floor demonstrations, family studios)
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Post-secondary education preferred
  • Able to stand, bend, climb, and/or walk for a prolonged period of time
  • Commitment to excellent customer service and teamwork
  • High comfort level interacting with children and adults in a fast paced, high traffic, public environment

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position: Food Service Employee

Status: Part-time (weekend availability required). Position opened until filled. EOE

Reports to: Café Coteau Manager

Job Summary: In alignment with the Museum’s mission, vision, and values, Café Coteau food service employees assist in all aspects of the daily operations including food preparation and clean-up, cooking, and customer service. The ideal candidate is passionate about food and customer service and enjoys working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare and serve a variety of foods according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions, following approved procedures.
  • Clean and sanitize dining and work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware according to health and safety standards.
  • Receive and store food supplies, equipment, and utensils in refrigerators, cupboards, and other storage areas.
  • Create a positive guest experience by delivering a high level of customer service
  • Assist customers using the point of sale computer system to ensure cash management is done efficiently and accurately
  • Inform supervisors when equipment is not working properly and when food and supplies are getting low
  • Assist in any area of the café when staffing constraints require


Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Previous experience in restaurant or hospitality service preferred
  • Exhibits effective communication skills
  • Able to take direction effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Able to use touch-sensitive POS system
  • Interacts easily and happily with children, their grown-ups and staff
  • Able to perform physical activities that require your whole body, such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Artwork Installation Internship

Status:  Part-Time -Approximately 100 hours, ~20 hours a week for five weeks in April and May

First review of applications will take place on January 30, 2017

Reports to:  Associate Director

Job Summary: In alignment with CMSD’s mission, vision, and values, the Artwork Installation Intern will have the opportunity to put classroom knowledge to use while working with a creative team in a non-profit organization that fosters hands-on, inquiry based learning.    

Essential Functions: The internship will provide a unique experience to assist with planning, preparing, and implementing the installation of a sculpture by artist Patrick Dougherty.  The prep work will occur during the month of April with the installation scheduled for the first three weeks in May.  Specific functions include:

  • Assisting with the procurement of required materials for the installation
  • Recruiting and coordinating volunteers to assist with the gathering of saplings and installation of the piece
  • Assisting with the oversight of the volunteers including checking in and documentation
  • Contributing input to the design of the piece with the artist
  • Physically assisting with the construction of the sculpture as needed
  • Assisting with the accessing, removal and return of all rented equipment and cleanup of the site
  • Contributing input to the design of the signage for the piece
  • Providing design input in the marketing of the installation
  • Helping with the documentation of the project, including photos, video, and interviews
  • Other duties related to the project as assigned

  • Student currently attending college or graduate school in a related field of study
  • Recognizes that children naturally learn through play

  • Communicates effectively and interacts genuinely with people of all backgrounds and abilities
  • Shows initiative and is able to meet deadlines with attention to details

Position: Museum Studies Internship

Status:  20 hrs / week in the Summer– Flexible to fit internship requirements
             Stipend possibly available, but not guaranteed

Reports to:   Associate Director

Job Summary: In alignment with CMSD’s mission, vision, and values, the Museum Studies Intern will have the opportunity to put classroom knowledge to use while working with a creative team in a non-profit organization that fosters hands-on, inquiry based learning.    

Essential Functions: 

The internship will provide exposure in multiple areas of the children’s museum including operations, guest services, exhibits, marketing, programming and event planning.  Specific functions include:

  • Gaining insight into the operations of a children’s museum
  • Interacting with guests on the museum floor
  • Maintaining a clean and safe environment
  • Assisting in the implementation of special events
  • Assisting with scheduled programming activities
  • Gaining exposure to educational planning and programming including museum research and evaluative functions
  • Gaining exposure to exhibit maintenance, design and fabrication

  • Student currently attending college or graduate school in a related field of study
