JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position:          Director of Marketing

Status:             Full-time (exempt)

Reports to:      Executive Director

Job Summary: In alignment with the Museum’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan, the Director of Marketing is responsible for planning, directing and maintaining an integrated multi-platform marketing and communication program that advances the Museum’s brand and reputation and drives attendance. All employees of CMSD are responsible for supporting CMSD’s goal to become a recognized leader in the children’s museum industry.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage and guide implementation of clearly defined marketing communication strategies in alignment with budget and future growth strategies.
  • Develop and oversee media relations strategies to secure publicity for all programs, exhibits, events, membership opportunities, and other high-profile opportunities.
  • Develop and oversee design and production of collateral material including print, web content, museum calendar, visual aids, banners, advertisements, newsletters, press releases and others as needed.
  • Collect and analyze data for use in measuring and managing marketing performance to maximize effectiveness.
  • Develop and execute a strategic and comprehensive social media plan that engages the public, offers relevant content for each platform, and develops brand awareness.
  • Oversee relationships and negotiate contracts with media partners and outside vendors including website design, print, photography, graphic design, advertising, etc. to secure and maximize the return on investment.
  • Oversee the presentation and consistent use of the Museum’s brand across all marketing platforms.
  • Develop and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships to ensure the ability to work cohesively with a cross-functional team.
  • Organize and maintain marketing files and records (electronic and hard copy).
  • Develop reports for board of directors.
  • Attend industry related events and conferences to enhance professional development and networking.

Job Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in marketing, graphic design or related field with at least 3 years related work experience. Experience in the tourism industry a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, Adobe Creative Suite, email and social media marketing tools, and HTML.
  • Proven history of building strong relationships and of using interpersonal savvy to enhance a team environment.
  • Ability to leverage analytical skills and findings to produce creative marketing campaigns.
  • Familiarity of latest trends, technologies and methodologies in graphic design, web design, production, etc.
  • Shows commitment to the mission, vision and values of CMSD.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:              Maintenance Assistant

Status:             Full-time, hourly (some weekend availability preferred). Position opened until filled. EOE

Reports to:      Maintenance Supervisor

Job Summary: 
In alignment with the Museum’s mission, vision, and values, the Maintenance Assistant helps ensure a clean, safe, and functional environment for the guests of the Children’s Museum of South Dakota. The ideal candidate will be a responsible, self-directed, creative individual that enjoys working in a playful, team-oriented environment. 

Essential Functions: 

Supports Maintenance Operations by

  1. doing general facility repairs such as painting, patching walls, hanging shelves, etc.

  2. assisting with museum landscaping such as trimming, mowing, weeding

  3. assisting with repairs to exhibits

  4. documenting repairs to both facility and exhibits

  5. assisting with setup and teardown for special events

  6. performing other duties as necessary

     

    Supports Custodial Operations by

  7. assisting Head Custodian with regular cleaning (mopping, vacuuming, dusting, washing)

  8. assisting with deep cleaning on Mondays

  9. performing other duties as necessary

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in mechanical and facilities maintenance, carpentry or a related field preferred

  • Experience using commercial cleaning products and equipment preferred

  • Knowledge of basic hand and power tools

  • Able to stand, bend, climb, and/or walk for a prolonged period of time

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds

  • Sensitive to safety and security procedures

  • Must communicate clearly with other team members, follow directions and ask questions if needed

  • Exhibit a positive attitude and ability to work cooperatively with other team members

  • Experience working in a fast paced, high traffic, public environment

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position: Food Service Employee

Status: Part-time (weekend availability required). Position opened until filled. EOE

Reports to: Café Coteau Manager

Vision: CMSD seeks to transform the world by inspiring generations to love learning and to believe that life is full of possibilities.

Job Summary: In alignment with the Museum’s mission, vision, and values, Café Coteau food service employees assist in all aspects of the daily operations including food preparation and clean-up, cooking, and customer service. The ideal candidate is passionate about food and customer service and enjoys working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare and serve a variety of foods according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions, following approved procedures.
  • Clean and sanitize dining and work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware according to health and safety standards.
  • Receive and store food supplies, equipment, and utensils in refrigerators, cupboards, and other storage areas.
  • Create a positive guest experience by delivering a high level of customer service
  • Assist customers using the point of sale computer system to ensure cash management is done efficiently and accurately
  • Inform supervisors when equipment is not working properly and when food and supplies are getting low
  • Assist in any area of the café when staffing constraints require


Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Previous experience in restaurant or hospitality service preferred
  • Exhibits effective communication skills
  • Able to take direction effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Able to use touch-sensitive POS system
  • Interacts easily and happily with children, their grown-ups and staff
  • Able to perform physical activities that require your whole body, such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
